Perry County JFS has developed a recovery after care program, in conjunction with local Drug Court(s), to provide critical resources to individuals with a substance abuse disorder (SUD).  The program also helps connect individuals who want to work with Employers that are committed to being a Recovery-Friendly Workplace.

Advantages of Hiring a Program Participant include:

  • Individuals are in a structured environment with access to basic necessities (food & water, shelter, clothing, transportation assistance)
  • Attend meetings to aid in recovery process and prevent relapse
  • Assessment of current skillsets (reading, math); use as a tool to determine training & career path
  • Access to education (CTech, Hocking Community College) and occupational trade training opportunities
  • Employer may qualify for a Grant-funded training period
  • These are individuals who want to work and rebuild their lives, and who want to provide for themselves and their families

That isn’t to say that there aren’t potential challenges for RFW Employers, such as:

  • Workplace stigmas about people in recovery
  • Supportive work environment
  • Need for employer policies on drug use & attendance that allows flexibility for individuals in recovery; awareness that employees may need to take time off during shift for recovery meetings

By joining the Recovery-Friendly Workplace Program, Employers are provided with HR-related resources, training, and support to help prepare for these workplace challenges.
